How to build your business website with ChatGPT Free

Yes, ChatGPT Free can build your business website with the AgentBuild plugin, on a domain you own. Free for 30 days, no card required. $15/month per site after.

Matte ceramic still life: a small tangerine cube resting inside an ivory arch on a deep orange slab, with a dark sphere beside it.

Yes, you can build your business website with ChatGPT Free. Add the AgentBuild plugin to ChatGPT, answer a few questions about your business, and ChatGPT builds the site, shows you a preview, and puts it live on a domain you own once you say yes.

After that, a change is one message, like "Use AgentBuild to change my Saturday hours." This guide walks through the whole thing for someone starting from zero: no website, no domain, and a free ChatGPT account you already use for quotes and captions.

Say you just started a cleaning business. A happy customer passes your number to a friend, who looks you up on Google before calling. A site with your name, your services and a way to get a quote makes you look like a real business on day one.

What you need before you start

  • A ChatGPT account. The Free plan works. You don't need ChatGPT Plus.
  • An AgentBuild account. You create it during setup, with your email address.
  • A domain you own, like yourbusiness.com. We never sell domains, so you buy one yourself from any domain company (called a registrar). A typical .com costs around $12 a year.

You don't need the domain on day one. ChatGPT builds a full preview first, so you see what you're getting before you buy one. The domain only matters when you're ready to go live.

How to set it up

These are the same steps as our setup guide. It takes about two minutes, once.

  1. Open AgentBuild in ChatGPT's plugin directory, or open the plugin directory in ChatGPT and search for AgentBuild.
  2. Click Install plugin. ChatGPT sends you to AgentBuild to sign in.
  3. New to AgentBuild? Click Start your site for free to create your account. Otherwise, enter your AgentBuild email and the 6-digit code we send you. Then click Allow, and you're back in ChatGPT.
  4. Start a new chat and send: "Use AgentBuild to build a website for my business."

Step 4 matters most. Starting with "Use AgentBuild to..." tells ChatGPT to use the plugin. If you just type "build me a website," ChatGPT may try to answer on its own instead of using the plugin. Once the conversation is going, follow-up requests don't need the name. A brand-new chat does.

ChatGPT asks before each change it makes; Always allow skips the question next time.

What happens in that first chat

ChatGPT starts by asking about your business: its name, what you do, where you work, and how customers should reach you. Answer the way you'd tell a friend. "Fern & Lemon Cleaning. Homes and move-outs on the east side of town. Text me for a quote." That's a good start.

It needs your business name and a couple of other answers before it builds anything. It builds from your answers. If it doesn't know something yet, that spot is clearly marked for you to fill in, and things like prices and customer reviews stay off the page until you give it real ones.

Then ChatGPT builds a preview and gives you the link, an address like yourbusiness.agentbuild.site. Open it on your phone, the way a customer would. Don't like something? Say so: "Use blue instead of green," or "Add a page for move-out cleaning." Each change comes back as a fresh preview, and nothing goes live until you approve it.

Going live on your own domain

When the preview looks right, buy your domain and tell ChatGPT the address. It connects the domain and tells you exactly what to change at the company you bought it from.

ChatGPT won't publish until the preview is up to date and every marked blank is filled in or removed. The first time, it also needs your go-ahead in your own words, something like "Yes, publish it."

With your domain connected, the site comes with three more things.

Email at your domain. Tell ChatGPT which inbox you already use, and it sets up forwarding. Click the confirmation link that arrives in that inbox, and from then on a message to hello@yourbusiness.com lands there.

Customer messages in one place. Whatever people send through your contact form goes to a leads inbox that ChatGPT can read back to you. Ask "Use AgentBuild to check my contact form messages from this week," and you get the list in the chat.

Search basics, on from the start. Every site gets a sitemap (the list of your pages that search engines read), your business details marked up the way search engines read them, and fast-loading pages. Nobody can promise you a spot on Google, and we don't.

Keeping it current

This is the real reason to run your website from ChatGPT. A change isn't a login and an afternoon. It's a message in the chat you already have open for quotes. Here's a normal month.

You start taking Saturday jobs. In a new chat: "Use AgentBuild to change my Saturday hours to 8am to 2pm." ChatGPT updates the site and sends a preview. You check it on your phone, say "publish it," and the new hours are live.

You add a service. "Use AgentBuild to add office cleaning, starting at $150." The change shows up in your preview first, and your live site stays as it was until you approve it.

You finish a job you're proud of. Send ChatGPT the before-and-after photos and say "Use AgentBuild to add these to my gallery." Same loop: preview first, live when you say so.

The fine print, in plain words

You buy your own domain. We never sell them.

Email is forwarding, not a mailbox. Messages to your domain arrive in the inbox you already use, and you reply from there.

It's a paid subscription. After the 30-day trial it's $15/month per site, and there's no free version.

Common questions

Can ChatGPT Free build a website?

Yes. With the AgentBuild plugin added, ChatGPT on the Free plan can build a business website, show you a preview, and publish it to a domain you own after you approve it. Start your first message with "Use AgentBuild to..." so ChatGPT uses the plugin.

Do I need ChatGPT Plus?

No. AgentBuild works with free ChatGPT. No paid ChatGPT plan needed.

What does it cost?

AgentBuild is in open beta. Free for 30 days, no card required. After that it is $15/month per site ($120/year), cancel anytime. Your ChatGPT plan stays as it is, and the only other cost is your domain, around $12 a year for a typical .com.

Does it work with Claude?

Yes. AgentBuild works with Claude too, and the setup guide covers both. Your site lives with AgentBuild, not inside either chat, so you can build it in ChatGPT and update it from Claude later.

What about ChatGPT Sites?

ChatGPT Sites is OpenAI's own way to build and publish a site from ChatGPT, and on the plans that include it, it's a good way to put a page online. As of October 2026 it's in beta on eligible paid plans, and OpenAI's help page says it isn't available on Free or Go. AgentBuild works on any ChatGPT plan, including Free, and is built for running a business website over time: email forwarding at your domain, a leads inbox ChatGPT can read back to you, and a site you can keep running from ChatGPT or Claude.

Ready when you are

Free for 30 days, no card required. $15/month per site after.

Start your site, or go straight to the setup guide and add the plugin. For a stronger first message, the quickstart has examples that point ChatGPT at a template, and the template gallery shows them all.
